1. WILL MY VEHICLE BE COVERED BY INSURANCE?
Absolutely! It is Federal Law that all Nationwide Auto Transport carriers carry Liability insurance and Cargo coverage to protect your vehicle while in transit. The Liability insurance covers the unlikely event that the truck is involved in an accident. The Cargo insurance is to protect you from any damage caused by driver neglect or error. Your vehicle is covered 100% with no deductible to you. However, these policies do not cover Acts of God, damage from severe weather or terrorist attack. It is recommended that you carry an additional private policy on your vehicle to cover these situations that are not covered by the carrier insurance policies.
2. WHAT IS DOOR-TO-DOOR SERVICE?
Lone Star Car Transportation provides door-to-door service, which means the driver will get as close to your door as safely and legally possible. Most vehicles are shipped on large transport trucks that are difficult to navigate in tight spaces, such as neighborhood streets with low hanging tree branches or power lines. The driver will contact you in advance to verify directions and ask questions about whether the up to 75 foot truck will be able to maneuver near your location. If there may be a problem, the driver will ask about the nearest location where they can unload safely, such as one of your local parking lots.
3. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Our goal is to have your vehicle delivered within 14 days from the time you place your order for transport. Pick-up and delivery dates are only estimates and not a guarantee. Weather, road conditions, congested traffic or even mechanical problems can cause delays to timely delivery. Our dispatchers will call you with the estimated pick-up and delivery dates and keep you updated throughout the transport if any delays arise. Our drivers are required to call you directly up to 24 hours in advance to inform you when they are getting close and make arrangements with you for pick-up or delivery.
4. DO I HAVE TO BE PRESENT AT TIME OF PICKUP AND/OR DELIVERY?
You do not have to be there personally, but there must be a responsible third party to release and receive the vehicle. There will be a contract known as a “Bill of Lading” that the carrier will document the condition (such as scratches, dents and paint chips) before the vehicle is loaded on the trailer. It will have to be signed at pickup as well as delivery. It is very important that the delivery representative verify the condition of the vehicle at delivery is the same as at the time of pickup. Any discrepancies must be noted on the Bill of Lading at delivery.
5. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN OPEN AND ENCLOSED TRANSPORT?
OPEN – An open carrier is the most common shipping method. These carriers are open to the elements and road hazards. They range from 3-car carriers to 10-car carriers. The 10-car carriers are the most common when going a long distance. Open carriers are less expensive than enclosed carriers. Unless requesting otherwise, quotes are based on open carrier rates.
ENCLOSED – An enclosed carrier has a trailer that is covered and protects your vehicle from the elements and road hazards. Enclosed carriers are more expensive, due to the restrictions on vehicle size and the amount of vehicles that can be transported on each load. These are used more for the high end luxury cars, classic cars or expensive specialty cars.
6. HOW DO I PAY FOR THE SHIPPING OF MY VEHICLE?
A deposit is required on all privately owned vehicles at the time the vehicle is picked up. This may be paid by credit or debit card. The balance is due on delivery in cash. However, for your convenience, arrangements can be made at the time of your order for the full amount to be charged to your credit or debit card. We also accept payments by PayPal if payment is made at the time your order is placed.
